In 1943 or '44...
In 1943 or '44, at Argentia, NFLD, as an RM1C abd CGC MODOC, W46, and alongside CGC Storis I had a short conversation w/CBM Victor Mature who was well liked by the crew, and later sponsored a party for the crew, I think, at a hotel in Halifax. Later that day a shipmate and I had three pt two beers, at the fleet canteen there. Victor, who had just left his love, Rita Hayworth, and learned (ostensibly) that she had transferred to Orson Wells, was making a record at the FC, aided by a guitarist from the Storis. He called Rits "Mimsy." Fine man, Victor. 73 bruce branick
I was stationed on board in 70-71. Lots of great memories some good some bad. I remember playing basketball against the high school coaches in Seldovia. I remember "Ice Liberty" near Nome. I remember one crew member stabbing another as we docked into a liberty port. I remember the January Patrol. Lots of good times so many years ago. The way the tide dropped in Anchorage. Crazy.
When stationed up there that was the last place I wanted to be...now 36 years later...I wouldn't have missed it for the world. To shipmates old and new remember her well for there will never be another like her.
Hope to see many people in RENO for the reunion.

Does anyone remember if my father was stationed on the Storis while it was in Juneau. We were stationed there for five years, 1961-66, and he held a number of assignments before we left. Just curious?

It's possible my dad was the guitarist. See photos: http://picasaweb.google.com/SebecLakeMaine/20080720DadSStorisPhotos?authkey=gs5ls4ojtLg
