Subject: USCGC 1977-1978
I read the article this evening on Military.Com regarding the Storis being decommissioned. This article almost brought tears to my eyes. I was station on board her from 1977-1978 until my orders came in to attend MK school. I have many pictures of the ship, crew and a few of the base. Watching The Guardian last month brought back memories of the base in Kodiak.
Best Regards,

I served on STORIS as OPS 85-87. My wife (Sue) and I came to Kodiak with our two girls (youngest was 1 month at the time, and she hadn't been baptized yet). Our fine CO (CAPT Jim Shaw) shared with us the tradition of using the ship's bell as a baptismal font. With his permission, I took the bell down, shined it up, and my daughter Erin L. Watson was baptized in OCT 85 in the old Star-of-the-Sea chapel on base. After the ceremony, I engraved her name and baptism date in the bell. My daughter jokes that when the ship is decommissioned, she wanted the bell. I understand there have been other names added to it since. Farewell STORIS, and congratulations to all who've sailed on her!
